Dauphinoise Potatoes

Ingredients

  • 600ml Double Cream
  • 6 Large Potatoes
  • 2 Medium Onions, Finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp Garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Pepper
  • Butter for frying and greasing dish

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 180c/gas mark 4.
  2. Par boil the potatoes, for about 10 mins.
  3. In a frying pan, melt the butter and sauté onions, garlic, salt and pepper for about 10 mins.
  4. Finely slice the potatoes and lay them out in a greased oven-proof dish, each slice slightly overlapping the other. Sprinkle some of the onion, garlic mix and pour cream, so the potatoes are covered. Repeat the layers until all the ingredients are used up. Make sure the potatoes are covered with cream. If you want you can add some milk to top up.
  5. Place in the oven for about 20 mins, until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are cooked.
  6. If you want, you can sprinkle some grated cheese on top, halfway through cooking time.
